Elmer, you have brought so much joy into so many lives -- but especially to all the Elsons, and to me. You were there for Henry's gregarious times -- and for his quiet times, too. I think of you reciting your great poem on the occasion of his 90th birthday -- and also of you just sitting quietly with him on the terrace at 811 Arlington. And I recall, too, your splendid lunches and dinners, your Christmas celebrations (complete with majestic prime rib of beef). Oysters! Gougeres! Tarte tatin! Always red wine (with an impressive provenance) for me!
Especially am I grateful for your kindness to me when I suddenly joined the Elson family. I cherish your welcome, and your generosity and friendship in all the years that have followed. I'm sending you a deep, warm hug -- and my love always.
