Dear Elmer,
As I write to you at the nightfall of your life I realize poignantly you may not read this. Nonetheless, I want to express what a wonderful presence you have been in my life over the last 39 years. You have a great heart and a great mind and I will miss you sorely when you go. I couldn’t love you more if you were my own father.
A friend asked me recently to describe you and I told her that I loved you very much and that if there had been interviews to choose a father-in-law I would have chosen you in a flash-and then asked if you had any daughters! ;-)
Your love and enthusiasm for life feel more than ever a precious legacy; something to sustain us in your absence. And let me assure you-you will never be absent from our thoughts and your presence will always inform the deep love that binds us as family.
All of my love,
Larry
