We are shocked and saddened to hear that you are suffering from two serious illnesses which are bringing on your death, and hope that there is very little pain and misery.  We have enjoyed your friendship and company a lot, and wish it had started earlier and lasted longer.  We send our most sincere affection, friendship, and respect to you, dear Elmer.  And we’re thinking of you and will continue to do so.
