Anne and I are so grateful and thankful that we were able to spend the time with you and Elmer two weeks ago, sharing a glass of wine and a chat with you both. It was so enjoyable to converse so easily with Elmer and to have the luxury of spending time with him, so that our final memory of Elmer is him at his best—loving and funny.

Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. He simply was one of the best people I’ve ever known, and I’m grateful that I had the pleasure of knowing him my entire life.

Anne and I send you our love and affection; I hope we can see you later this fall once the dust settles from the family visits and the emotional maelstrom. I love the image of Elmer and Alfred drinking wine on that cloud. Hopefully Harry Roth will be able to break away from his pursuit of female angels to join them.
